About Me & Pickle

about us

Hello, I’m Sue — and dogs have been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember.

I’m turning 78 this year, but staying active has never been a problem when you have four paws keeping you on your toes! Over the years, I’ve cared for so many wonderful dogs — from energetic spaniels to gentle greyhounds — and each one has brought something special into my life. For many years, I volunteered with the Greyhound Trust, helping retired racing greyhounds move from kennels in Wales to Honiton, where they could be assessed and rehomed. I’ve carried out countless home visits, checked gardens for safety, and spent time helping nervous dogs settle into their new homes. Not every visit was easy, but every dog deserved that chance at comfort and love.

I’ve also shared my home with a few lively spaniels — a laid-back blue roan cocker, a working cocker, and a rescued springer. Each one had a different personality, and they taught me patience, understanding, and the joy that comes from caring for dogs with very different needs.

After many years with greyhounds (six in total!), I decided it was time to adopt a smaller companion. That’s how Pickle came into my life — a little dachshund cross with a big heart and a brave story. She was rescued after being used for breeding, and despite her rough start, she’s the most loyal, loving dog I could ask for. Now, she joins me on every dog sitting adventure — from countryside walks in Devon to longer stays across the UK.

When I’m not with the dogs, you’ll find me enjoying the beautiful grounds of Knightshayes, playing bowls at my local club, or crafting in my garden log cabin. But truly, nothing makes me happier than spending time with dogs — giving them care, comfort, and companionship while their owners are away. At Sue & Pickle Dog Sitting Services, every dog becomes part of our extended family. I believe in gentle handling, calm routines, and lots of affection — because that’s what every dog deserves.
